Project Description – Shades of Wine

“Shades of Wine” is an architectural response that interprets wine as a sensory and cultural experience – rooted in craftsmanship, landscape, and tradition. The design grows gently from the topography of Umbria: flowing forms, regional materials, and soft transitions between inside and outside shape the architectural character.

The five guesthouses are modest in scale and draw inspiration from local building traditions and materials. Green roofs, natural stone, timber, and clay meet a clear, contemporary language. Generous openings and wooden terraces connect each unit to the surrounding landscape, offering private and tranquil spaces for retreat.

At the heart of the ensemble lies a compact, circular main building that houses the winery's cellar, a kitchen, tasting and dining areas, and a flexible event space. It acts as the central anchor of the site, inviting guests to share experiences. A walkable rooftop terrace offers sweeping views of the vineyard and the rolling Umbrian hills.

Sustainability is embedded throughout the concept: photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting, recycled materials, and local resources are combined with green roofs and biodiversity-supporting landscaping. The result is an architecture that unites nature, culture, and community – creating a place of retreat and togetherness in harmony with its environment.
